A critical element of spiritual growth at Werrington Parish Church is the biblical strength and pastoral support within Discipleship Groups, where we have 120 church members in 12 groups (some weekly, some fortnightly) plus a men’s breakfast group that meets twice each month on a Saturday. These groups are the principal way of developing deeper relationships and growing in faith and discipleship.
For the Spring term, we are suggesting a period where there is time for groups to “catch-up” either with studies or with each other after the challenges of the last year and the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions.
For this year’s Lent studies we returned to Holy Habits but this time using the book “Holy Habits: Following Jesus” by Andrew Roberts. Studies began week commencing 15th February.
In Discipleship Groups the first set of studies were based on and extend themes coming out of the Season of Prayer that ran in October and November last year.
During lockdown in 2020 and 2021, our groups have been a key space for people to connect. They have continued to meet in various different forms, including socially distanced meetings (where permitted) or via zoom, giving opportunities for our members to grow in their faith, commitment, leadership skills and to offer ongoing pastoral help.
Stronger links are being built between Discipleship Groups and the Pastoral Care team to ensure all aspects of spiritual and pastoral needs are well supported.
